2015 Pathology 2.0 group of ESTP Webinars
Tissue section-based investigative technologies

With the objective of continuous pathology education, ESTP Pathology 2.0 group has organized and invites you to a series of 4 webinars on Advanced Pathology Technologies during this year. The first webinar is focused in the Immunohistochemistry technique and applications in the field of Toxicologic Pathology. We hope that will be of your interest and the beginning of a forum of discussion and continuous training.

Webinar 1. New Developments in Immunohistochemistry

Speaker: Dr. Grazyna Wieczorek, Senior Investigator, Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research in Basel, Switzerland
Moderator: Dr. Arthur Lewis, Senior R&D Manager, MedImmune, Cambridge, UK
Date: 24 February 2015 at 2 p.m. CET

Objectives:

  • The 45 minute webinar will revisit best practices of IHC including sample preparation, antigen retrieval, and signal amplification. In addition, antibody validation for novel targets and high throughput methods like automated IHC will be covered.
  • The 15 minute Q&A session will allow the participants to ask questions directly to the speaker and the moderator
Who should attend?
  • Pathologists, residents and scientists working with immunohistochemistry

Following a review of the scientific basis and best practices for high quality IHC and immunofluorescence, the seminar will provide information on different methods of automation, best practices in antibody validation for novel targets, specific challenges in IHC like mouse-on-mouse staining, and methods for increasing throughput. Specific aspects that will be covered include:

  • Requirements for optimal tissue processing, including various fixatives;
  • Antigen retrieval via enzymatic and physical methods;
  • Biotin-free detection systems (e.g. ImmPRESS and ENVISION) and tyramide signal amplification (TSA) systems;
  • Capabilities of Ventana, Dako and Leica multistainers;
  • Antibody validation using transfected and knock-down cell lines;
  • Use of tissue microarrays, among other topics.

The seminar is suitable both for pathology scientists who have only basic knowledge in immunohistochemistry (IHC), as well as advanced users.

Registration for ESTP members will open January 26, 2015.
Open registration on a first come-first serve basis from February 9, 2015.
For both, please go to the registration form.
